SPP Interview : English Teacher

Assalamualaikum everyone! It's been a while since my last post in here. Decided to share some of my recent interview via my blog post. Hopefully it will be beneficial for everyone who came across my blog. Happy Reading!

Two weeks before the interview, I received a text message from SPP to check on my application status.

(Screenshot of SMS)

Upon checking, I was very shocked to know that I am selected for an interview at Putrajaya for the position of English Teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan, Pengambilan Siri ke-6 2022. Alhamdulillah syukur!!! 💓

(Screenshot of slip)

This is going to be my first time of attending interview under the government sector. So I was not sure of the dress code, the protocol and why types of questions that I should expect from the panel. I then reached out to my friends and alhamdulillah they shared me a slide that I should read to equipped myself better for the interview. Here is the link for the slide : Temuduga SPP - Guru Bahasa Inggeris

Dress code for woman :

  1. Plain baju kurung, plain headscarf and wear it neatly
  2. Nametag
  3. Heels need to be in black colour, not too high not to flat and the tip of the heels need to be round not pointy

(Heels picture)

Also, when I go through youtube they encouraged us to keep all of the photostate documents in a black file and we are also encouraged to print out our picture and label our black file.

(file picture)

But it turns out, it is not necessary. Prior entering the interview room, they will ask us to take out all of the copied documents and only hand in the copy without the file to them. So yes, we can skip the filling. Remember to keep your hard copy in another file as the panel will go through the hard copy!

The interview took around 1 hour. Mine started at 8 AM and finished by 9 AM. We entered the interview room in a group. There were 7 candidates including myself, and two panels. It is optional to take off the mask since they will need to identify whether or not we are the right person who came up for the interview.

Both of them looks friendly, and Alhamdulillah I instantly became very comfortable to talk with them. My tips are, you need to remain calm while answering the question given. Do not rush to answer, instead take your own sweet time to think and construct your sentences in your head before answering.

One of the candidates was crying because she was too nervous, and she could not utter any words. Thankfully, the panel was very kind. She kept on giving another chance to the candidate by asking a very simple question. Her question was "if you need to teach speaking skill in class, what are the topics you are going to choose?" Another one candidate speaks with a very shaky voice, but she still tries her best to let her opinion out. I admire her courage on that.

Alhamdulillah, I could say that both of the panels were asking simple questions. I will list down the questions below:

1. Introduce yourself

2. If you are being appointed for this position, pick someone that you will choose to be your mentor

-I chose Ketua Panitia Bahasa Inggeris

3. What are the differences between a mentor and a coach?

- You can relate with football team. Your coach is the one who planned for the tactical while mentor could be your teammates

4. What is CEFR?

5. Based on CEFR, what are the most important skills?

- I chose speaking

6. How do you plan to teach speaking in class?

- I chose role play

7. What are the qualities that you have for this position?

- I answered, passion and patience to teach.

The session was conducted fully in English. We shall expect the result by January, or February next year.

Semoga ada rezeki and good luck future teachers, Inshaallah.

Till next time!

Love,

Fxhdx

Farewell

Since this Semester has come to an end, I would like to say thank you to our Madam, for teaching us a lot of useful software that might be useful for us in the future. Who knows, one of us might be a courseware developer oneday ☺

This marks the end of my post in here, I might no longer write in here as I have a bigger responsibilities awaiting for me (staying up with my 2 months old child and study for my final exam). Eventhough I will  no longer write in here, I think I will always revisit this blog in the future, when I think of my degree years ; these years where I have to struggle a lot. Balancing my study and raising my child, since my husband is working far away 😩 Well, you don't know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Thank you so much to my lecturers who understands and tolerate a lotttt with me especially in this semester since they gave me 2 weeks study leave after I gave birth, I appreciate it  a lot. May Allah repay all of their kindness.

Dear Madam Azida, I hope you will have a smooth delivery, and fast recovery. Take care and thank you so much for all the knowledge that you have shared. I am sorry if I have done anything wrong. Again, thank you for everything.

Assalamualaikum.

Feel free to try our courseware at :- Malaysian Legends Smartbuilder

Thank you for reading!

Smartbuilder : More Problems Are Coming Our Way

Hi and Assalamualaikum people! Okay since our time are very limited, we agreed that our courseware can not be completed on time if we depends 100% on the language lab computer. Our lecturer always give us time during her class for us to update our courseware, but, since Smartbuilder is a bit time consuming, we decided that we should download the software to our laptop.

I promised to my teammates to bring my laptop the next day. We tried to download the software to my laptop using KUPTM's wifi, but unfortunately failed 😡 Maybe my laptop couldn't support the format of the software. Therefore, we tried to download the software using Hidayah's laptop. Hidayah's laptop able to download the software in a short time of period. However, when we tried to use the software, her laptop became stuck. We were quite stress at that time.

A few days later, Ros said that we could use her friend's laptop. Luckily, her friend's laptop can function smoothly while we are using Smartbuilder, what a big relieve! Alhamdulillah.

I guess that's it for me as for now, thank you for reading!

Smartbuilder : Building Our Own Courseware!

Hi everyone! Since my last post was about us discussing about our courseware title and storyboard, therefore this week we have came up with our finalized story board. Well, if you judge our courseware  based on the report, it might seems like it is not interesting since in the report, there are no image, or even colours. We just made a plain report as what madam told us to do. Therefore, here's some of the screenshot of our storyboard in the report :-

That's it from me as of now, thank you for reading!

Smartbuilder : Inserting Audio and Hotspot

Hi people! Welcome back to my blog. Okay to be honest, I kind of having difficulties with catching up on how to use Smartbuilder. I mean, I totally get it when Madam showed example in front as I was sitting at the front row, but as soon as I need to get it done by myself then bammmm! Here's come the disaster part. I found out that it took patience for us to get a command correct. We need to be very careful in doing the coding. However, I am blessed that people besides me could point out my mistakes in coding. So back to the lesson, this week we learned on how to insert audio for the courseware and creating hotpsot. To be honest, inserting audio are a lot more easier than creating the hotspot because of the simple coding using in inserting the audio.

After madam has finished teaching us this week's smartbuilder topic, my teammates and I had agree on doing a courseware entitled "Malaysian Legends". I had already taught my standard 5 students (during my practicum years) that topic, and for me and the students, the topic is quite interesting as most of the states in Malaysia are known with their own Legend Stories. That is why I managed to convinced my teammates on why we should chose that topic. After that, we started discussing our storyboard for the courseware.

Well, I guess that's it for my entry. Thank you for reading!

Canva & Smartbuilder

Hi and Assalamualaikum people! So for this week, I learned about Canva and Smartbuilder! Have you heard about these two tools? Because I haven't before, and this is my first time of being introduced to such tools. So, what is Canva actually? Okay so basically, Canva is where you create beautiful design or poster for your social media, blog header, presentation, brochure, and many more! This is where you express your creative sides in creating posters and such. I will definitely going to use Canva in the future because I honestly think Canva looks interesting and easy to use (if I have to create brochure, or any templates for my assignments, or perhaps during my practical). So, I don't have to use the existing poster or picture in the Google since I can already create it on my own (Yay me!).

Moving on to the second tools, which is Smartbuilder. Okay people, this is seriously getting more interesting! Do you know when do we use Smartbuilder? We use it to build a courseware! Do you hear me? A courseware! This is definitely an advantage for us since we can create our own courseware and who knows we can make some serious money in the future by creating our own courseware 😜 Okay so let's get back to the topic. To be honest, it is a bit complicated for me to start using Smartbuilder at first. But, as soon as our lecturer demonstrate to us on how to use it, I find it a bit easy and enjoying. We are divided into a group of 4 to build a courseware, can't wait to start building a courseware! So, stay tune people.

PowToon

I am so excited with this week's class as this is my first time of using PowToons. Our lecturer assigned us a group of 4 to do an educational video. To be honest, it is quite challenging for 4 of us to create the video as this is the first time for four of us using PowToons. However, after a few hours of using PowToons, we could already use PowToons smoothly.

After group discussion, we agreed to do an educational video about obesity. This video was created to create awareness about obesity among kids. So here's our video! 😊

Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoyed it!

Podcast

Hi everyone, I feel so outdated because I just knew the existence of Podcast, even though I'm one of the Apple user *facepalm*. Podcast is an audio or video file and is being broadcast via the internet and can be downloaded to the computer or smart phone. The term "Podcast" derived from the term "iPod" and "broadcast".

Podcast is used to promote self study, or maybe to gain new knowledge through listening. Some people want to gain knowledge but they are too lazy to read. This is where Podcast takes place as via Podcast, students can listen to variety of  topics, from history, book review to the story telling.

Interested to create your own Podcast? Say no more! All you need are your smartphone (to record your voice, or other recording tools such as microphone), an editing tools for example "Audacity, and then you're good to go! Your final step would be, uploading your Podcast to your favourite medium, which are Youtube, Blog, iTunes and many more.

Now, it's time for me to try on creating my own Podcast. Happy Podcasting, beautiful people. Feel free to listen to my first Podcast. I reviewed a book entitled Fangirl, written by Rainbow Rowell. So here's the link!

How To Design Courseware (Instructional Courseware Design)

Hi people! Since I was on MC for 2 weeks, therefore I have to read the notes and update my blog from home. After I have read the notes for this week's topic which is Instructional Courseware Design, there are a few things that I can pick up. A courseware is one of the example of CALL. Courseware are design as a support to lesson, not to replace the lesson. Before designing a courseware, there are a few steps that need to be taken to consideration in order to make sure the courseware are able to meet the learners' needs. Based on Addie's Model Framework, there are 5 steps for the development of instructional coursework, which are analysis, design, develop, implement and evaluate. Well, I think that's all from me as of now. See you in my next post!

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)

Hi and Assalamualaikum people! As for this week, we only had a single period of class. Therefore, we only managed to learn a chapter which is Computer Mediated Communication or CMC for short. CMC is a form of communication  in which, we use different computers but still connected via internet. CMC can be divided into two, which are Synchronous CMC and Asynchronous CMC. Synchronous CMC is a medium used to have immediate response, such as Whatsapp and Skype (unless they chose to ignore you 😜). While Asynchronous CMC is a communication medium in which we don't get immediate reply, such as email. CMC plays an important role in long distance learning, because through Synchronous CMC, students and lecturer can easily get connected via video conference such as Skype, for their online lecture.

CMC can be very useful if we managed to set the rules and limitations in using technology as a form of communication. Limitations in our lives plays an important roles in order for us  to produce generations of normal and humanly human being. What I am trying to say here is that, everyone nowadays seems to be very clingy and dependable on their smart phones or computer, until they forget to socialize with people around them.

Some of the kids these days  throw their tantrum if their parents didn't give them their iPads. They no longer play with each other, at the park just like how we used to do when we were a kid. This shows how unhealthy our futute generation has become and it is possible if oneday, people in the future will be less human, as the results  of lack interaction and affection among human, due to excessive of hours spending their time with the robot (including computers and gadgets). Before I end my post for this week, I would like to highlight that, prevention is better than cure. Therefore, use technology wisely. Don't let it takeover your live. You only live once, give it the best shot!
